The green open-top box shows Raggedy Ann on the front and bears a 1940 copyright and a McLoughlin Bros. While #883 and #884 do appear in the price list for 1943, it is unclear whether the record refers to these particular volumes or to the 1943 editions of the same texts. Though all these books appear in Patricia Hall's 2001 bibliography of Gruelle, they are listed separately, without the box in which these are housed. Gruelle" who signs the illustrations is thus the creator's brother, Justin C. Raggedy Ann, heroine of the first book, was a favorite doll of his daughter, Marcella, who died after a long illness at the age of thirteen. Other formats: Hardcover, Paperback, Audio CD.
